It has been designed for adults over the age of 21 who currently work as:

* LMIC (low and low-middle income country) Community Health Workers
* Indigenous community health workers; or
* Vape shop staff or other retailers of THR products.

The course may also be useful for THR advocates who regularly advise people who smoke to switch to THR alternatives.

The course consists of 2 modules:

* Module 1 seeks to increase understanding of dependency upon smoking
* Module 2 seeks to increase knowledge of all the cessation methods and aids that exist.

Each module uses a digital game as the main teaching tool. Extra materials (to read, or videos to watch and case stories to read) are recommended each week. Trainees have to complete an application form (which includes baseline questions). Throughout the course there are small quiz-like tests, follow-up questionnaires and a few small reflective writing assignments. Each module will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. The entire course should be completed in about 16 weeks. It doesn’t take up very much time each week though as it is designed for people who likely work fulltime. There is also a 3 week study break in the middle of each module.

The first stage of this project is to evaluate the course. I am looking for a total of 100 people who meet the above criteria to take part in a pilot study. I will be recruiting in NZ, Russia, Pakistan, Nigeria and 2 more countries.

All participants will need access to a desktop computer, internet data and they will need to be able to read and write in English.

The New Zealand Health and Disability Ethics Committee and a Russian ethics committee confirmed that this study is low-risk and as such does not need to apply for ethics committee approval.</blockquote>
