Template:Request ping/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Request ping. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template should always be substituted (i.e., use {{subst:Request ping}}). |
Purpose
This template is used on talk pages to ask other users to ping the poster with any reply. It would normally be placed just before the poster's signature.
Substitution
This template must be substituted with the subst: keyword for it to work properly.
Usage and examples
The most common usage is simply {{subst:Request ping}}
which renders as
If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{u|<Current user name>}} to your message, and signing it.
Where "<Current user name>" is transformed into to the username of the user saving the edit; the template substitutes the magic word {{REVISIONUSER}}.
{{subst:Request ping|Example}}
renders as
If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{u|Example}} to your message, and signing it.
{{subst:Request ping|Example|cond=you want to talk}}
renders as
If you want to talk, please ping me by adding {{u|Example}} to your message, and signing it.
Parameters
- first (unnamed) parameter
- This should be the user name of the user who wished to be pinged, as Example for User:Example. If not supplied, this parameter is replaced with the name of the user who saved the edit. To keep this from changing with later edits, the template must be substituted using "subst:"
- cond
- This optional parameter is for text to replace you reply here in the output wih some other condition. It should be appropriate to follow "If" and precede "please ping me." See example above. (alias condition)
Aliases
{{Repi}} and {{ReqP}} are shortcuts to this template.
Credit
Credit goes to User:I dream of horses, who wrote a basically similar piece of code for use in her signature, but without the parameters.
